Verified 2.4km run training locations in Singapore including East Coast Park, Bedok Reservoir, Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and MacRitchie Reservoir

Best Places to Train for Your 2.4km Run in Singapore

Last updated: 24 August 2026 | Written by Adrian Tan, IPPT Trainer and Fitness Content Specialist

Four spots consistently come up when I plan 2.4km training routes with NSmen: East Coast Park, Bedok Reservoir, Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, and MacRitchie Reservoir. Each suits a different part of the island and a different kind of training: flat and fast, scenic and steady, or trail-based for a tougher session.

Picking the right training ground matters more than people think. Training on the wrong surface or terrain for weeks, then testing on a flat 400m track, can throw off your pacing on test day. Running through our FCC guide beforehand helps you understand what a structured session looks like, and you can always check your target numbers with the IPPT score calculator before choosing a spot. I walk through what each of these four locations actually offers below.

East Coast Park: Flat, Long, and Coastal

East Coast Park runs along Singapore’s southeastern coastline and offers one of the longest continuous flat stretches on the island; long-distance runners can string together a route of up to roughly 15km if they want. For 2.4km training specifically, that length means you have room to warm up, hit your pace segment, and cool down without doubling back constantly.

The catch is crowd density. Weekends get busy with cyclists, families, and picnickers, which makes pacing work harder to control. I tell clients training here to go on weekday mornings or evenings instead, so you’ll get a cleaner run without weaving through foot traffic.

There’s no shade for most of the route, so this isn’t the spot for a midday session. Pair it with the early-morning or evening timing covered in our heat and humidity training guide instead.

Bedok Reservoir: A Reliable 4.3km Loop

Bedok Reservoir Park has a flat, well-maintained loop measuring 4.3 kilometres around the water. That’s just under two laps for a 2.4km training run, or you can turn around partway if you want to measure it more precisely. The path is a mix of gravel and paved surface, with a sandy trail option that some runners prefer for lower joint impact.

Like East Coast Park, there’s limited shade here, so sun exposure adds up fast if you’re running through the middle of the day. Reviewers and regulars consistently point to early morning or evening as the better windows, and sunrise and sunset views over the water are a bonus if you’re out at the right time.

If you want to extend a session, the adjacent Bedok Park connects for additional distance without leaving the immediate area.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park: Central and Flexible

This park sits in the heart of the island and splits into two connected sections divided by Marymount Road. The two sides have their own named tracks (Pond Gardens at roughly 3km and River Plains at roughly 3.3km), and combining both halves via the connector trail brings you to a full loop of around 6.4km.

That flexibility is the appeal here. If you only have time for a shorter session, one side alone gets close to your 2.4km target with a bit of room to spare. If you want a longer training run, loop both sides together. The terrain is flat, paved, and shaded in more sections than East Coast Park or Bedok Reservoir, which makes it more forgiving for midday sessions if you’re pressed for time.

It’s also centrally located, which makes it a practical pick regardless of which part of Singapore you’re coming from for a session.

MacRitchie Reservoir: For a Tougher, Trail-Based Session

MacRitchie is the outlier on this list: a genuine nature trail rather than a paved park loop. The main reservoir loop, officially marked as Route 3 (Blue Trail) by NParks, runs 10.3 kilometres with some elevation changes and natural terrain underfoot. Shorter official routes exist too: Route 1 (Green) at 3km and Route 2 (Purple) at 4.8km, both rated easy.

I recommend MacRitchie to NSmen who are already comfortable hitting their target time on flat ground and want to build extra strength and adaptability by training on uneven surfaces. The tree canopy also means significantly more shade than the coastal or reservoir options, which helps if you’re training later in the morning than ideal.

This isn’t the place to attempt your first-ever timed 2.4km run: save it for once you’re confident in your pace and want a harder conditioning session instead.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Fastest, flattest option: Bedok Reservoir’s 4.3km loop is close to ideal for measuring a clean 2.4km segment.
  • Most flexible for time constraints: Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, thanks to its two shorter connected tracks.
  • Best for long, uninterrupted runs: East Coast Park, if you train on weekdays.
  • Best for harder conditioning once you’ve got your pace down: MacRitchie Reservoir’s trail terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bedok Reservoir’s loop is 4.3km: just under two laps gets you close to a 2.4km training distance, or you can mark your own turnaround point.

Not as a starting point. The trail terrain and elevation changes make it better suited to runners who already have their flat-ground pace under control.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park’s two connected tracks (roughly 3km and 3.3km) work well for shorter, time-constrained sessions.

MacRitchie has the most shade due to forest canopy. Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park has partial shade in sections. East Coast Park and Bedok Reservoir have very little shade: train early or late in the day.
